Suffering with Christ

23,35

The theology of persecution is about the oppression of Christians worldwide and the questions that this provokes: does the way of Christ for everyone who wants to follow Him run through suffering and death? Are Christians called to share in His suffering? Are we as the Western Church overlooking something?
In Suffering with Christ, the theology of persecution is elaborated on in four sections. From different points of view, in each case the same question is asked: what is the relationship between the Biblical proclamation of the cross of Christ, the experience of faith of the persecuted Church, and our own being Christians in the context of the post-Christian West?
In this study, Willem van der Deijl shows that through the eyes of persecuted Christians, the sharpness of the Bible is brought closer. A sharpened hermeneutics helps us to discover what it means for us that Jesus and the first Christians chose a path of powerless suffering.

Willem van der Deijl is a theologian and works, among others, for Open Doors in the Netherlands.
